Rooms of Life

The Twelve Houses

Twelve rooms of life

While signs describe style, houses describe setting. Imagine the chart as a modernist home with twelve rooms. The planets are residents, the signs are their outfits, and the houses reveal where the action takes place.

Angular Houses (1, 4, 7, 10)

These are the load-bearing walls of every chart. Planets placed here broadcast loudly, often showing up in life roles that other people can see. The 1st house is your interface, the 4th is your interior world, the 7th holds contracts, and the 10th is your contribution to the wider culture.

Succedent Houses (2, 5, 8, 11)

Resources live here. The 2nd house speaks to your personal assets, the 5th to creative output and play, the 8th to shared resources, and the 11th to communal support. Planets in these rooms often tell the story of how security and generosity circulate through your life.

Cadent Houses (3, 6, 9, 12)

These are the liminal spaces: hallways, libraries, meditation rooms. They focus on transition, learning, service, and integration. Cadent placements may not be flashy, but they keep the ecosystem humming.

Turning the Chart

One of the quickest techniques is to rotate the chart so that a specific house becomes the '1st.' If you want to study career topics, count the 10th as the 1st and move around from there. This simple trick yields custom insights without complicated math.
